I.        Statement:

Example:

1.       DS: Maria said to me, “I  will study abroad after senior high school”.

IS  : Maria said to me ( that) she would study abroad after senior high school

2.       DS: The teacher said to the students, “you have to study hard in order to get successful”.

IS: The teacher said to the students (that) they had to study hard in order to get successful

3.       DS: Mrs. Ahmad said to her son, “you must finish your study for 3 years”.

IS  : Mrs  Ahmad said to her son (that) he had to finish his study for 3 years

II.      Yes / No Question

Example:

1.       Andy asked me, “do you join the English course?”

Andy asked me if I joined the English course.

2.       Sinta asked Deni, “did you come to Ani’s party last week?”

Sinta asked Deni whether he had come to Ani’s party the week before.

3.       Mr. Kamaru asked his friend, “have you written your story?”

Mr. Kamaru asked his friend  If he had written his story.

4.       Kamila asked Tony,”Didn’t you join the class yesterday?”

Kamila asked Tony Whether he hadn’t  joined  the class the day before

5.       Ani asked Budy,”Will you buy the English book tomorrow?

Ani asked Budy whether he would buy the English book the following day.

III.    Imperative

Example:

1.       The teacher  asked  the students, “please write the examples of possessive in your book!”

The teacher asked them to write the examples of possessive in their book

2.       Father asked Dinda, “don’t go alone at night!”

Father asked Dinda not to go alone at night

3.       Maria asked me, “Sit down please!”

Maria asked me to sit down

IV.    Using Question

Example:

1.       Mardi asked tommy, “why didn’t you come to the meeting?”

Mardi asked tommy  why he hadn’t come to the meeting.

2.       The teacher  asked to the  students, “how long do you take a rest ?

     The teacher asked to the  students  how long they took a rest.

3.       Maretta asked Leli, “where did you buy the dress?”

Maretta asked Leli where she had bought the dress

4.       Mother asked her daughter, “when do yo have  the 2^nd test?"

Mother asked her daughter  when she had  the 2^nd test.

5.       Dodi asked Maria,”when will you go to Bali?”

Dodi asked Maria  when she would go to Bali
